There’s more food and medicine in your yard than you realize! Are you seeing a “weed” with tiny, blue, striped flowers? If you’re lucky, you have speedwell and instead of spraying it with herbicide, turn it into food and medicine!

Scientific Name: Veronica persica

Type: Weed & Wildflower (Non-native)

Other Names: Field Speedwell, Bird’s Eye Speedwell, Persian Speedwell

Abundance: Common

Speedwell (Veronica persica)

This creeping ground cover likes the cool late winter/early spring of the south. Look for it in areas receiving lots of sun but where the soil is moist and rich, such as a well-fertilized lawn on the south, east, or west side of your home.
